What is a Vanilla Whiskey Sour?
A vanilla whiskey sour is a variation of the traditional whiskey sour cocktail incorporating vanilla’s rich and aromatic flavor. It includes whiskey, fresh lemon juice, and vanilla syrup. The addition of vanilla adds a subtle sweetness and depth to the cocktail, complementing the whiskey and citrus elements for a delightful twist on the classic drink.
How to Make:
Ingredients:
- 2 oz. bourbon whiskey of choice
- 3/4 oz. freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 3/4 oz. organic vanilla syrup
- 1 egg white (optional)
- 2-3 dashes of orange bitters
- Garnish
- 2-3 dashes of Angostura bitters
- maraschino cherry
Directions:
- Add all the ingredients to a cocktail shaker. Then, dry shake (without ice) vigorously for around 30 seconds
- Skip this step if you’re not using egg white.
- Add ice to the shaker, and shake again until frost forms outside your shaker.
- Double strain the cocktail into a coupe glass or over ice into a rocks glass.
- Add 2-3 dashes of Angostura bitters to the top foam layer of the drink.
- Express the oils of an orange peel over the drink, and add the remaining garnishes.
- Serve and enjoy!
What Does Egg White Do to a Cocktail?
Adding egg white to a cocktail, like a whiskey sour, brings a velvety texture and a frothy, luxurious foam to the drink. In a whiskey sour, the egg white helps soften the citrus’s sharpness and balance the flavors, resulting in a smoother and more visually appealing cocktail. It adds a creamy element without altering the taste of the drink significantly.
